Information for International Students
Dear International Student,
Welcome to Nizhnevartovsk!
We’re more than glad that you’ve made a decision to study at Nizhnevartovsk State University!
Please, read carefully the following information about various aspects of your upcoming adventure!
NIZHNEVARTOVSK AND TRANSPORTATION
Nizhnevartovsk is located about 2305 km from the capital of Russia, Moscow. The most convenient and quickest way to travel to Nizhnevartovsk is by plane (3,5 h). Information on the schedules is available at the following websites:
However, if you’re positive to travel by train (Moscow->Nizhnevartovsk), you would definitely enjoy an almost 3 day trip along the magnificent sceneries of the Trans-Siberian Railway.
- In order to apply as an exchange student, please fill in the application form (attached to this email) and send to email@example.com not later than the following deadlines: Autumn Semester (September – December) application deadlines:

- Please, also send the scanned copy of your passport
- NVSU international office will contact you within 5 days of getting your application form to confirm that you’re signed in.
- Receive an official invitation from NVSU and proceed with visa application.
Invitation Letters are issued by the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation. The procedure usually takes around 30 days. As soon as the Invitation is issued, the scanned copy is sent to you/your home institution via email, the originals are sent by regular mail. You can apply for a Russian STUDY visa at diplomatic of a consular representative office of the Russian Federation in your homecountry.
As soon as you booked your tickets, please inform NVSU International Office (firstname.lastname@example.org) about the date and time of your arrival.
NOTE tha twe strongly advice you not to buy flight/train tickets before you get an Official Invitation.
It is recommended that before arriving to Russia all International students take care of insurance coverage for the whole time of their stay.
You’re requested to arrive at least 5 days before the start of your studies in order to complete registration.
NVSU Provides a pick-up service from the Airport, so please make sure to confirm your arrival date and time to Nizhnevartovsk to International Office via email@example.com no later than 3 weeks before your arrival. The ride from the airport to the dormitory takes around 25-30 minutes.
International students usually stay in the furnished double rooms of the University Residence Hall which is located at 60 a Severnaya Street. Linen, blankets and towels are not included in the rent, don’t forget to bring your own or you can always buy everything you need here. In order to enjoy comfortable stay in Nizhnevartovsk you’re advised to properly proceed with the registration right after your arrival. To prepare all the necessary registration documents, please contact the International Office NOT LATER THAN THE NEXT WORKDAY after your arrival.
For the registration you will need:
- Passport with valid Russian visa;
- Migration card (make sure to get it at the passport control when crossing the border of the Russian Federation)
- Health Insurance
Upon arrival you will receive an information folder containing all the relevant information and documents concerning the study period. The folder contains a map of the town, list of shops, supermarkets, pharmacies near the Dormitory and University Campuses, emergency contacts, etc.
MENTORING (STUDENT BUDDY)
A mentor is not an academic tutor, but a Russian student who, on a voluntary basis, helps you settle in during the first days of your stay in Russia. In general, the mentors will help you with practical matters such as registration at the Federal Migration Service, advise you on where to shop and introduce you to the university premises. Your mentor will contact you once you have been approved to study at NVSU.
The appointed student mentor:
· contacts you personally before your arrival and answers possible questions;
· picks you up from the airport;
· depending on your arrival and accommodation situation, brings you the keys from your dorm room;
· helps you settle into your new home;
· helps you find important places in the city;
· introduces you to Russian culture and student life;
· provides information on your campus and free time activities.
WEATHER AND CLOTHING

Remember to bring some warm clothing with you. The temperatures may drop to –40 C in winter, and rise up to +25 C insummer.
