The research laboratory for Complex Studies of Social Systems was established in December 2018 based on the merger of the research laboratories for regional Historical Studies (2014–2018) and Applied Didactics (2003–2018).

The laboratory combines two scientific directions:

• Western Siberia as part of the Russian State: problems of history, historiography, source studies, methodology and teaching methods;
• actual problems of vocational education: theory, methodology, analysis of practice.

The laboratory's activities are aimed at combining scientific research on topical issues of history, pedagogy and the implementation of the results obtained in the educational process. The laboratory employs leading specialists recognized both in the region and abroad. The laboratory provides an opportunity to combine the efforts of experienced researchers and young scientists (postgraduates, students) within a number of relevant projects in demand by the state and society, to establish cooperation with major Russian scientific centers dealing with topics similar in content.

The laboratory staff participates in the implementation of socially significant scientific projects:

• "Academic History of Ugra" (2021-2023);
• "The Orthodox Encyclopedia" (2022-2023);
• "The Great Russian Encyclopedia" (2014-2021);
• "Encyclopedia of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society" (2019-2022).

The results of the laboratory's activities:

From 2014 to 2023, prepared and published:

• 22 monographs;
• 39 articles in publications included in the databases Web of Science, Scopus, RSCI;
• more than 90 articles in the publications of the HAC.
