The Department for Ecology was founded in 1998. The Department provides training in physiology, human and animal ecology, environmental chemistry. The Department members and students are actively involved in research within the following areas:

•         Geobotany

•         Ecology of lower plants

•         Ecology of higher plants

•         Fauna and ecology of invertebrates

•         Fauna and ecology of vertebrates

•         Biogeochemistry

•         Human ecology

•         Methodological issues of ecology

•         Environmental physiology

•         Ecological and physiological adaptation mechanisms and strategies of swamp plants

•         Local freshwater algae

•         Local vegetation and flora

•         Ecological safety of oil and gas regions

The Department of Ecology enjoys a set of modern-equipped classrooms, lecture halls and laboratories, including:

•         Laboratory of Chemistryand Environmental Management;

•         Laboratory of General Ecology;

•         Laboratory of Biology;

•         Laboratory of Human Ecology and Life Safety;

•         Laboratory of Student Research.

•         Laboratory of Microbial Ecology;

•         Field Research Laboratory;

•         Accredited Testing Laboratory.

The staff members are active participants of various regional and international grants and competitions, including regional grants from the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Area – Yugra and a grant for postgraduate studies from the University of Barcelona.


The Department is involved in the project "Evaluation of Quality of Cooperation in Education Ecosystem as a Mechanism for Building Professional Competencies - E3M" approved for funding within the European Commission Tempus IV in 2013.

 The Department is implementing Jean Monnet Module "Interaction of environment and human health: Experience of the European Union”, 574826-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-MODULE approved for funding within the European Commission in 2016. Academic Coordinator of the Module is Irina Pogonysheva, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor; Coordinator is Denish Pogonyshev, Candidate of Biological Sciences (Ph.D.), Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Ecology, Vice-rector for Accreditation and International relations.
