NVSU participated in the Final Intensive Seminar of the project “Social Integration of Minority and Migrant Children” within Nordic-Russian Cooperation Program (March 16-20, St. Petersburg)

The event was attended by the representatives of JAMK University of Applied Sciences (Jyvaskyla, Finland), University College of Southern Denmark (Haderslev, Denmark), St. Petersburg State Institute of Psychology and Social Work, and Nizhnevartovsk State University. NVSU was presented by Irina Istomina, the Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology, and Oksana Yakovishak, the leading specialist of the International Office.

Final seminar events were devoted to the topic of gifted children, and particularly, to studying  the experience of Russian partners.

As part of the final workshop, the project participants, including teachers and students, have visited the Finnish primary school in St. Petersburg, and the Finnish House, an institution promoting awareness and providing information about Finland through different cultural, educational and research activities.

Moreover, the participants have visited the training center and children’s camp “12 Kollegiy”, is a unique psychological center in St. Petersburg. The institution has a 20-year experience in practicing a unified concept of psychological support from an early age to the time when a person reaches his or her adolescence and becomes a university student. The seminar program included the presentation from Irina Istomina (“Migrant children showing the signs of giftedness”) and Simon Shulin, a doctoral student at University College South Denmark (“Definition of talent and pedagogical praxis”).

The students have shared their impressions of visiting the venues and attending the lectures and presentations with other project participants. Working in the mono- and multicultural groups, the students have discussed the problems of teaching gifted children, and then made poster presentations. NVSU students have made their presentations online.

The final part of the seminar was devoted to the summary of the fruitful work on the project. The members of the project team have emphasized the successful achievement of the project goals, the support of internationalization in each of the participating universities, and new perspectives for cooperation within Nordic-Russian Cooperation Program.

All project materials of the final seminar will be published on the official website of the project (http://oppimateriaalit.jamk.fi/nordru/), an open educational platform on discussed subjects, as well as a useful archive of materials for students from partner universities working on their final papers and theses. NVSU will coordinate the writing of a group monograph based on the project.

This event was a great opportunity for NVSU to gain valuable experience of participating in an international project and also to strengthen cooperation with foreign counterparts.

We thank all project participants for the fruitful cooperation!
